Esperanza
Esperanza
Esperanza (Tecoma stans) (also known as Yellow Bells or Yellow Elder) is a showstopping, semi-evergreen shrub featuring clusters of bright golden-yellow, trumpet-shaped flowers that bloom abundantly from spring until frost. This heat-loving plant thrives in hot, sunny conditions where its vibrant blossoms create a dramatic display against glossy, dark green, pinnate foliage. Native to the American Southwest and Mexico, Esperanza is a butterfly and hummingbird magnet that adds tropical flair to the landscape. The upright, multi-stemmed growth habit makes it an excellent specimen plant, informal screen, or container focal point.
Care Tips: Prune in early spring to maintain desired shape and encourage bushier growth. May die back in Zone 9 winters but typically regrows vigorously from the base. Can be grown as an annual in colder zones or overwintered indoors in containers. Remove seed pods if self-seeding is not desired. Highly resistant to deer and tolerant of heat, humidity, and drought once established. Allow plenty of space for mature size or select compact cultivars for smaller gardens.
