John Creech Stonecrop
John Creech Stonecrop
'John Creech' Stonecrop (Sedum spurium 'John Creech') is a diminutive, mat-forming succulent groundcover featuring small, rounded, bright green leaves and dainty pink flowers that appear in late spring to early summer. Named for the former director of the U.S. National Arboretum who discovered it in the Siberian Altai Mountains, this exceptional sedum creates a dense, weed-suppressing carpet that's perfect between stepping stones, in rock gardens, or spilling over walls. The evergreen to semi-evergreen foliage (depending on climate) remains attractive year-round and turns reddish-bronze in cold weather. Extremely tough and adaptable, it thrives in poor soils and withstands foot traffic better than many other sedums.
Care Tips: Excellent drainage is essential—plant in gravelly or sandy soil, raised beds, or containers. Too much shade can cause leggy growth and reduce flowering. No deadheading needed as spent flowers blend into the foliage. Can be divided at any time during the growing season to propagate or rejuvenate. Deer and rabbit resistant. May struggle in hot, humid climates with heavy rainfall and poor drainage. Water occasionally during extended drought, though plants are quite resilient.
